The Firm
Built by mariners. Trusted by markets.
Spica Canada was founded by Captain Abid H. Choudhury and has grown into a trusted network of attending surveyors serving Canadian and international ports.
We do not consider a survey complete until the report would stand without us in the room.
Established in 2009, Spica Canada has served the entire marine industry for the last seventeen years. Every attending surveyor on our panel has held a senior seagoing rank or shoreside superintendent role. That experience shows in what gets photographed, what gets measured, and what gets challenged at the gangway.
Our reports are written for the people who use them — owners settling claims, charterers protecting hire, traders defending quality and underwriters managing exposure. Plain language, traceable evidence.

Master Mariner · Principal Surveyor
Captain Abid H. Choudhury founded Spica Canada to bring a working master's eye to the survey profession. His career at sea — through the ranks to command of ocean-going tonnage — informs every standing instruction issued to attending surveyors today.
Beyond the bridge, Capt. Choudhury has acted as a marine consultant and expert witness on matters of cargo care, bunker disputes, hull and machinery condition, and ISM compliance. He leads the firm's technical review of every report before issue.
Operating principles
Independent
No commercial relationship with bunker suppliers, charterers or yards.
Attended
Senior surveyors physically on board — never desk reports.
Evidenced
Geotagged, time-stamped photography on every finding.
